Shawn Kirk has been a veteran laboratorian with 36 years of expert, unparalleled experience with the medical laboratory technology field. He recently headed the HIV/Virology Department at Trinidad Public Health Laboratory and is currently the Medical Laboratory Superintendent at the Insect Vector Control Division. Shawn has become an IATA internationally certified Instructor in the Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR). He is also a part time Tutor at the Medical Sciences Faculty in the department of Primary Care and Public Health, St. Augustine. Mr. Kirk has augmented his role to act as Trinidad’s National Contact Point for the Biological Weapons Convention (United Nations). He delivered presentations on ‘National Analytical Framework on Biosafety and Biosecurity” at the Meetings of International Experts at the United Nations, Geneva, Switzerland. He is currently applying his expertise in this role to seek the implementation of the law domestically to give effect to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Biological and Toxin Weapons and their Destruction. Shawn is also the National Point of Contact for Biosafety and Biosecurity. In the role of Medical Laboratory Superintendent, he is duly responsible for the Entomology and Parasitology laboratories, and with direct supervision also of the vector surveillance investigative field teams.
